New Windows 10 Enterprise images for SIM-Cloud

Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB - ISO Images

To make your work with SIM-Cloud easier, we have prepared a large set of distributives for different OSs that can be deployed from images – both common and narrow-focused (say, Router OS). New images for Windows 10 Enterprise / LTSB with different screen interface languages available for installation have been added to this set:

  • Windows 10 Enterprise DE
  • Windows 10 Enterprise EN
  • Windows 10 Enterprise RU
  • Windows 10 LTSB EN
  • Windows 10 LTSB RU

Same as before, the OSs are provided as free or trial versions, and users have 90 days after the OS installation on a virtual machine to activate the OS on their own.

So, in what way is the new Windows 10 OS different from the previous ones (apart from relatively moderate requirements to the ‘hardware’, as noted below)?

Note: Technically, this is the first time when a new version of Windows does not require any serious upgrades from users or any replacement of the existing computers. Windows 10 works well on any devices compatible with Win 7, 8 and 8.1. Besides, special builds of this OS can be installed on:

  • administrative computers for various self-service kiosks (ATMs, vending machines) and industrial automation devices;
  • single-board computers running on ARM (PCs not compatible with х86);
  • IoT (Internet of Things) controllers.

Win10 stands out because of the new way of OS build, deployment and maintenance: ‘Windows as a Service’. In the past, new versions of Windows would be introduced once every couple of years and would require extensive user adoption because lots of new features were introduced. From now on, the components will be updated twice a year – every March and September. Bug fixes (including security-related ones) will be distributed on a monthly basis.

Of all Win 10 Enterprise editions, the most notable one is a stabilized compact build named Enterprise LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch – without any updates to receive new OS functionality). The LTSB designed for low-budget computers and virtual machines with low-end functionality excludes many ‘extra’ in-built applications that consume lots of resources (RAM, processor’s computing power):

  • Edge browser;
  • Microsoft Store;
  • Cоrtаnа voice assistant;
  • some other applications (Microsoft Mail, Calendar, OneNote, Weather, News, Sport, Money, Photos, Camera, Music and Time).

If needed, the LTSB provides access to other ‘common’ utilities: Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, etc. One can say that the Enterprise LTSB can be a good option for those who:

  • work with Win 7 and are not familiar with Win 8;
  • are not ready to fully switch from the familiar interface;
  • want to get the new features of Win 10 with minimal changes in the functionality and the desktop interface.
